Tres Leches

This is a Tres Leches cake. Its a cake that comes from Mexico. Tres Leches translates to "three milks"; It's called this because it uses three different kinds of milk: sweetened condensed, evaporated and regular milk. I add my own special ingredient in there to make it my own. They are traditional made with whipped cream and topped with fresh fruit.
This is a 10 inch round with whipped cream and fresh fruit filling and also topped as decoration.

This was a birthday cake with a funky flat rose design. It is a 10 inch round made of carrot cake with a cream cheese filling and decorated with a Italian buttercream.

Black Forest Cake

Black forest cake is one of my favorites. Its a 12 inch round chocolate cake soaked with a cherry liqueur and filled with cherries and whipped cream. It is decorated with duo chocolate curls and pre-sliced for a party at a restaurant.
This is a Mario cake for a birthday. The cake is a 12 inch chocolate square, a 8 inch square and a 6 inch round. It is filled with american buttercream and covered in fondant. I hand molded the gumba (mushroom looking guy) and hand cut all the decorations.
A sweet banana nut cake filled with whipped cream and fresh bananas is covered in american buttercream. The Curious George is actually a candle. The cupcakes on the bottom are chocolate and vanilla topped with vanilla buttercream and banana candies. The cake is a 8 inch round.
This fun cake is a chocolate cake with strawberries and bananas covered with fondant. Elmo is a 14 inch base and Cookie monster is a 10 inch cake.
This simple wedding cake is made with vanilla chiffon and Italian buttercream. Its a rustic textured design that looks great on its own or with a cascade of flowers. The base is 14 inches and the top layer is 8 inches.
This lovely cake is made with strawberry cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The frosting is american buttercream and has buttercream roses on the top.

engagement party cake

I made this engagement cake and I really liked the look of all white. There is something so elegant about an all white event. The wedding is usually filled with color. The bridesmaids are draped in color and there are flowers everywhere. Colors adorn the tables and chairs.
So for this engagement party the theme was black tie. It was a small event. The cake is a ten inch round decorated and filled with Italian buttercream. The cake is made with vanilla chiffon lightly soaked in vanilla syrup.

Strange Birthday Cakes

When ever I take an order for a cake I always have to remember, its not for me. As strange as that sounds, there are plenty of times people ask for things that I would never think of. Then they ask me if I like their idea and I can only respond with, "If it makes you happy, then its a good idea". And that leads us to these fun cakes...

This is not a Halloween cake. Its a birthday cake for a 6 year old girl who wanted a spider party for her birthday. So her mother, being the amazing mother that she is, gave her a spider cake. Most people would think this is strange, even myself, but it's wonderful that this little girl went against the main stream pink princess and barbie parties that most girls ask for.
This was a banana cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream filling and decorated with buttercream icing. It was a round 10" cake as the base with the web decoration and then I added a 6" half dome cake on the top to serve as the body of the spider. I coated the dome with black buttercream and used straws as the legs. I wrapped the straws in black fondant and then black icing. The eyes are fondant and then added a fondant plaque in front with "Happy Birthday" to finish it off.

This is not a Halloween cake. This is a cake for my niece Miranda. She is a smart, quirky and girly 8 year old. One of her favorite shows was Scooby Doo . I'm sure everyone is familiar with the show. No? Its a bunch of detective teens and their talking dog solving mysteries. Since she was a huge fan, this was the only cake that would do.

We first went to Toys R Us to pick out the figurines. Once we had those (they were not toxic) we built the cake together. This is a chocolate and vanilla cake with fresh banana/strawberry filling. It was decorated using vanilla buttercream. Miranda picked out the colors and the design all by herself. I had asked her if she was excited about Halloween. Maybe that would be the reason behind her decision, but she said no. In the show, she explained, the group always solved spooky mysteries. She wanted the cake to show the scary ghosts and monsters that were on the show. This is the same girl who wears pink nail polish and calls herself Princess Miranda when she thinks no one is listening. She is always full of surprises.

This is her outside about to light the candles. She added the little red gift box on top of the cake because as she said,"Presents are an important part of birthdays". We had a BBQ birthday party for her in our backyard. She was so proud of her cake and I am so proud of her.

More Baby Showers

This cake was a baby shower cake I made in early January. Its a chocolate and banana cake with raspberry buttercream frosting. This cake was super tall because i wanted to use four layers of cake  (two layers of chocolate and two layers of banana) and three layers of filling. I had never used this combination before but it worked out really well. The cakes are covered in buttercream and decorated with fondant. The little baby on the top is a ceramic figure that I covered with a fondant blanket. I wanted to cover all the cakes with fondant but the person making the order had a small budget for the cake. I always try to work with every price range. I'm love making people happy.

Baby Shower Cakes

I made these cakes last year for a baby shower.

This one is a cupcake pull-apart cake. I baked chocolate cupcakes and used vanilla buttercream to decorate.

This cake was also for the same party. Its a chocolate cake with strawberry and whipped cream filling. The onesie is made with fondant and the rest of the cake is decorated with vanilla buttercream. It is the size of a quarter sheet cake.

I am so lazy....so very lazy. Shame on me

So let me start by apologizing, I'm sorry. I have completely neglected this blog. I had so many expectations with this blog. I wanted to do everything, all at once. And just like every time I get too excited, I just rush in with out thinking. So I will try one thing at a time and see how that goes for me. I will post pictures of all the cakes and desserts I make and maybe a recipe in every once in a while. I love being in the kitchen and getting dirty, working with my hands and I HATE being on the computer for too long. I'll never be a chef, too much paperwork. So my new goal is to post one picture/recipe a week. Here goes nothing!
